Support
Services
Clerks.
All units, whether Territorial Army or Royal Auxiliary Air Force
require the support of military clerks to manage office administration,
pay and accounts. Military clerks can specialise in general office
procedures or financial management. The other volunteers rely on
the pay clerk to get their pay into the bank on time, so it is a
critical job. In the TA clerks are members of the Adjutant General's
Corps, and there is a higher age limit of 46 for recruiting into
this trade.
Chefs. Equally, all units require chefs, who are members
of the Royal Logistics Corps again with a higher recruiting age
limit of 40 years. It is not necessary to have cooking skills, as
both field and barrack catering is taught, giving the ability to
get up early to cook breakfast in the field for hungry colleagues,
then produce a five star mess dinner the following weekend.
Combat Medical
Technicians. Every unit has a limited number of medics to provide
in-house medical cover and advise on field hygiene. Prior knowledge
is not essential. Age limits vary according to qualifications, but
are generally higher than for other trades.
